How to Lock or Unlock Your CD-ROM Drive in Windows

You can easily control access to your CD-ROM drive using the Windows Registry Editor. Follow the steps below to lock your CD-ROM drive or restore it to its normal state.

Steps to Lock Your CD-ROM Drive

1. Open the Run Dialog

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.



2. Open the Registry Editor

Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.



3. Find the Setting

Press Ctrl + F to open the search bar.

Type allocatecdrom and press Enter to locate the key.



4. Modify the Value

Once you find the allocatecdrom key, double-click it.

Change its value from 1 to 0 to lock the CD-ROM drive.



5. Close the Registry Editor

Exit the editor to apply the changes.

Steps to Unlock Your CD-ROM Drive

If you want to restore your CD-ROM to its normal state:

1. Repeat the steps above to navigate to the allocatecdrom key.


2. Change the value back from 0 to 1.


3. Close the Registry Editor.
